Mature fruits in a native hedgerow

A large, dense, native deciduous shrub or small tree with spiny branches, which are attractive in autumn when laden with masses of shining red fruits that mature to black. The yellowish-green flowers borne in May attract Brimstone butterflies. Its glossy dark green leaves turn yellow in autumn. Tolerant of chalky soil.
