Bedding Plants and Hanging Baskets

If you have not grown your own plants we have a good selection available with some interesting unusual varieties to try. Some worth considering are Gaura lindheimei Siskiyou Pink with its lance shaped pink flowers, Sabatius convolvulus with clear blue flowers and silvery foliage, Diascia Salmon Supreme, Perilla lacinata with its deep purple foliage looking stunning against silver Cineraria Silver Dust and Cineraria Saxifraga with its bright yellow star flowers.

Hanging baskets if not set already should be done now. There are so many marvellous plants available now to give a wide range of different effects. A basket full of only Petunia Million Bells is just stunning and will be full of flower right through till the first frosts. Do remember that all bedding plants do flower far more if they are regularly dead headed and fed. For ideas of what to put in your baskets come and look at the ones around the Garden Centre. We now have them on display around 'Piccadilly Circus' and also near the compost area to try to make that area look a little more attractive.

Scent of Summer

If you call in to the Garden Centre do have a look at the new display with the theme 'Scent of Summer'. Scent is such an important aspect of gardening, especially as many of the heavily scented flowers are those which attract bees, butterflies and other insects. As so many of our birds, butterflies and insects are under threat it is important to make areas of your garden attractive to them.

Clematis

Our clematis sale has now come to an end but judging by the number which were sold there should be lots of colourful climbers in the area soon. The new season's stock has now arrived with many interesting new varieties available including Josephine, Blue Light, Montana Jacqui, Lemon Chiffon, Kiri te Kanawa and Princes Diana.

Shows and Hampton Court

Some of you may have visited the Greenfingers Fair in Aylesbury or the Plants Fair at Canons Ashby. Both were interesting events and our stand at both created a lot of interest. Susan took over the Plants Information Stand for a while to give Pippa Greenwood a break. At both events we were able to talk to many keen gardeners and we know of one who came direct from Canons Ashby to the Garden Centre as they were so impressed by our display.

Susan and Charlotte are both working (and worrying) hard as their Garden has been accepted for display at The Hampton Court Show this year. This is very exciting for them especially as it is one of the few designs which has been mentioned in The Royal Horticultural Society's magazine The Garden. We shall all look forward to visiting them, in the meantime click here to find out more about the garden.

Time to relax and enjoy your garden!

Make the most of these long summer evenings with a Mexican Chimenea on your patio radiating heat, keeping unwelcome biting insects at bay and even roasting the odd potatoes in it must be a plus. We have three different sizes in stock and prices range from £99.

Garden furniture is a field of stock we have expanded considerably this year. We have two designs of Duo seats, a delux version with luxurious thick cushions and reclining seats at £310, or one with static seats but with cushions and parasol at £222. There are two sizes of teak benches a two seater for £260 and three seater for £280.

Also a range of Ashworth English handcrafted aluminium furniture. This is not cheap like the imported aluminium sets but you are getting quality which will last a lifetime. The aluminium is pure, the fittings stainless steel and the paint sprayed on to a high standard.

Apart from this we are stockists of the Alexander Rose range - again this is not a cheap range but the quality speaks for itself. It is all made from timber from sustainable forests which is something we should always look for. A set of four folding chairs and a good sized folding table will cost £799 but with correct timber treatment this will look good for years to come. If you feel this is rather extravagant the Sherwood Meranti hardwood set of folding table and four folding chairs costs only £238. However our best seller so far this year is the 'kiddies patio set' comprising of two colourful folding chairs, a table and parasol at a special price of £25.90. I know they will not last a lifetime but as the children will out grow the sets this will not be a problem and in the meantime the children love them.

Aquatics News

If you venture into the aquatics department now you will find not only the range of tropical fish but the cold water fish have returned for the summer season. Now is the time to tidy up your pond to have it in sparkling shape for the summer. If you have a problem with it being silted up overgrown with blanket weed or just want to clean your filters a pond vac is a suitable machine. We have one for hire but do 'phone (01280 827927) or email (peter@buckingham-aquatics.co.uk) to book as this service is proving to be popular. It is a good time for re-potting pond plants or planting new ones.
