PLANT AREA MANAGER

Summary Outline of Role

To be responsible for sourcing and ranging products for a variety of product groups within agreed budgets and targets
To lead and motivate a team to achieve the standards necessary for retailing the products from the point of receipt through merchandising, selling and replenishment
To organise the Plant Area teams and ensure that rotas are kept to and daily tasks carried out
Coordinate customer deliveries with our van driver
40 hours per week to include alternate weekends
Reports to Retail Manager

Product Groups

Plant area
Bedding, alpines, roses, herbaceous, shrubs, climbers, conifers, vegetables, fruit, ornamental trees, herbs and specimens

Hedging/bare root
Bare root hedging, fruit and ornamental trees

Deputising Roles

To act as Duty Manager for the whole garden centre on a rota basis

Skills / Experience

Previous experience of buying, negotiating, preparing and implementing merchandise plans is ideal, although hands on experience of merchandising & replenishment ordering at a senior level would be considered
Previous experience of leading & coordinating a team of people is critical to the success of this position
Customer service skills should be second to none
An excellent knowledge of plants and an understanding of the different seasons of sale is essential

Key Responsibilities

To lead the Plant Area team of staff
To select plants and negotiate with the suppliers to achieve best possible trading terms for product groups in your area of responsibility
To attend trade shows relevant to product groups in area of responsibility
To ensure all plants look their best at all times on the plant area and are properly watered
To implement link sales and ensure 'hot spot' areas always look their best
To meet with Retail Manager to agree space allocation appropriate to the season
To prepare & implement plant area plans and seasonal changes as agreed with Retail Manager
To work with the EPOS team so that all new suppliers & products are entered onto the EPOS system including cost / retail prices and supplier barcodes
To monitor EPOS reports so that maximum margins & profitability are achieved and so that poor selling lines are rationalised or removed from the range.
To work with the EPOS team in relation to labelling and POS requirements and checking in of goods which have been delivered ensuring that all delivery paperwork is processed in the correct manner.

Bulbs, Seeds, Garden Chemicals, Growing Accessories, Plastic Pots, Lighting, Clothing, Garden Tools, Watering Equipment & Bird care

Leisure
Giftware, Furniture and BBQs, Christmas Decorations

Outdoor Sundries
Fencing, Compost, Aggregates, Slabs, Garden buildings, Ceramic pots, Stone ornaments, Hanging Basket Accessories etc

To prepare & implement floor plans and seasonal changes as agreed with Retail Manager
To work with the EPOS Supervisor so that all new suppliers & products are entered onto the EPOS system including cost / retail prices and supplier barcodes
To monitor EPOS reports so that maximum margins & profitability are achieved and so that poor selling lines are rationalised or removed from the range
To work with the EPOS Supervisor in relation to labelling and POS requirements and checking in of goods which have been delivered ensuring that all delivery paperwork is processed in the correct manner

Working every other weekend 8:45am to 4:30pm in our busy restaurant
Up to £8 per hour D.O.E.
Immediate Start
You will need basic food preparation and cooking skills as all food cooked to order, and must be organised and ready to work under pressure.
