A very popular, vigorous, upright deciduous tree with stiff ascending branches which are covered with young coppery-red leaves in spring, turning green in summer. Masses of clusters of fully double purple-pink flowers 1.5-2ins (4-5cm) across appear before the leaves during the latter half of April. TREE 25ft x 18ft (7.6m-5.5m) in 20 years, ultimate height 30ft (9m).
