Hardy fast growing deciduous tree with broad spreading head. 8 inch (20cm) long leaves, opening pale yellow, turning green in summer then brilliant colours in autumn from yellow to dark red. Any ordinary well drained soil and needs an open sunny position to develop a good shape. Acorns take 2 years to mature. TREE 30ft x 18ft (9m x 5.5m) in 20 years, ultimate height 100ft (30m).
