Raised in the early twentieth century in South Buckinghamshire and in 1945 became the only culinary apple tree to receive an Award of Garden Merit for its blossom. Large greenish-yellow flushed orange-brown fruits. Excellent baking apple which cooks to a well-flavoured yellow purée which needs little sugar adding. Good for pies, sauce or baking. Heavy cropper. Suitable for colder areas and is more resistant to frost.

Raised in Kent in 1964. First new cooker for 50 years. A good disease resistant variety. Cooked slices just keep shape, soft, juicy, light and sweet. In late winter it can be eaten as a dessert apple.

The original tree was grown from a pip in the early 1800s in Nottingham by Mary Ann Brailsford and it was propagated by a local nurseryman in the 1850s, but by then the property where the tree was growing was owned by the local butcher, Mr. Bramley and he insisted on the tree bearing his name. It should really be Brailford's Seedling! Abundant apples with firm pale yellow flesh, acid, excellent cooker. Green with red stripes. Very vigorous. Propagated from the original Bramley tree, so has excellent quality.
Note: We currently only have Bramley's Original available on M25 rootstock. If unpruned this will get to approx. 16-18ft (5-5.5m).

This variety became widely known after 1883. Abundant apples with firm pale yellow flesh, acid, excellent cooker. Green with red stripes. Very vigorous. Considered by many to be the best cooking apple.

Raised on the Isle of Wight in 1915-16. Heavy cropping, large to very large yellow-green flushed red first-class cooking apple, with fine juicy flesh which breaks down well when cooked. Growth vigorous. Suitable for colder areas and is more resistant to frost.

This west country variety was raised in either Dorset or Devon in the late 1700s. Very useful dual purpose apple used for cooking, and for cider making or adding sharpness to cider blends. Fruit has bright red flush with stripes; flesh is firm, crisp and quite sharp, but sweet when cooked. Vigorous, spreading habit, good regular cropper.

Believed to be a 13th century variety found on Bardsey Island in Wales in 1998. The variety has now been propagated from this unique tree. The apples are boldly striped pink over cream with a unique lemon scented flavour. A very disease resistant variety. A connoisseur's choice.
Apple cooks to a delicate light golden fluff and it needs no added sugar.

Discovered in Woodstock, Oxfordshire growing against the wall of Blenheim Park, and exhibited in 1822. Large golden flushed red crisp fruits of fine flavour. Suits heavy soil. Considered by many to be the best dual purpose apple. Very valuable garden variety. Makes a strong limbed tree with very hard wood which was used to make cog wheels for railways! Suitable for colder areas and is more resistant to frost.

Raised by Charles Ross in Berkshire and first exhibited in 1890. Best used early for cooking when it bakes well. Very large, good, sweet flavoured, juicy orange-red eater. Easy to grow, scab resistant. Good exhibition variety and remains a good garden variety, even in Scotland. Suitable for colder areas and is more resistant to frost.

Raised by James Grieve in Edinburgh and recorded in 1893. Makes a sweet, delicate stewed apple when picked early and is a good juicing variety. As an eater is tender, very juicy, excellent flavour, pale yellow with red flush. Regular cropper. Medium vigour. Suitable for colder areas and is more resistant to frost.

New in 2004. Heavy cropper, strong grower. Large fruits, flushed and striped red on a pale green background with a deep red blush and attractive flecks. Good disease resistance. Especially attractive and good for baking as it retains its red coloration when baked.

Windfalls and early fruit cook well with slices keeping their shape, or makes a sweet baked apple. Possibly originates from France and dating back to at least 1776 when a description can be found. A good eater with aromatic, nutty, sweet, firm fruit, golden with red stripes. High in vitamin C.

Raised in the 17th century by a physician Dr. Ashmead of Gloucester. Beautiful flowers, apples have a superb, intense, sweet aromatic flavour reminiscent of fruit drops, flesh firm and crisp. Skin green-yellow flushed orange-brown. A fruit for the connoisseur.

A Somerset variety introduced about 1864. One of the very earliest dessert apples, sweet, juicy and pleasantly sharp. Bright red flush on pale yellow skin and flesh is sometimes pink. Very popular colourful eating apple, crisp, firm, aromatic and juicy. Now grows well here but enjoys a sheltered, sunny spot.

This is a very old a much valued variety, possibly dating from Roman times. When first picked it is rich, fruity with a strong pineapple-like acidity, then as it matures this mellows to sweet, scented and full of flavour right into the New Year. Also valued as a decorative tree. Yellow apples with very attractive light-red flush.
Note: We currently have Court Pendu Platl available on M25 or M9 rootstock. M25 rootstocks, if unpruned, will grow to approx. 16-18ft (5-5.5m). M9 is a dwarfing rootstock which will grow to approx. 10ft (3m) and is best staked in the first 3-4 years.

The original Cox's Orange Pippin was raised in 1825 in Slough, Berkshire and has been popular ever since both as a commercial and garden variety. Unique fine flavoured aromatic fruit, tender and juicy. Not suitable for cold or wet soils. Compact heavy bearing tree, and completely self-fertile.

Raised in Essex in 1949. Regular good cropper, sweet, crisp, juicy apples of good flavour, aromatic with a hint of strawberry flavour, yellow flushed bright red. Flesh is often stained red. Lincolnshire variety recorded in 1904. Noted for intense rich aromatic flavour with taste of aniseed developing after picking, crisp yet soft with melting juicy flesh. The quality of this new variety is exceptional with a rich aromatic flavour. Small to medium sized rich golden brown apples with Cox-like flavour. Raised in 1897 by Laxton Brothers in Bedford, a cross between Wyken Pippin and Cox's Orange Pippin. Very heavy cropper, sweet and aromatic having some of the richness and complexity of Cox's but very sweet. Flesh firm and juicy. Fruits medium to large, yellow with red flush.

This new variety is something very special, with its wonderful complexity of flavours, crisp, sweet and aromatic. It has been carefully bred for all UK garden conditions. Russet streaked Cox-type apple has superb aromatic eating quality, sweet and rich. Bushy habit, produces spurs well. In appearance it is similar to a well-coloured Cox's – yellow-green background with a good red flush and russet streaks. This variety was selected to celebrate the Royal Horticultural Society's 2004 Bicentennial celebrations.
